Review of Honda's 'Environmental' Models

Hybrids vehicles are becoming more and more popular, and Honda has a great selection of Hybrid vehicles. They added to their Hybrid selection, already having the Honda Clarity, with the 2018 Honda Accord Hybrid and the 2018 Honda Insight Hybrid. Each comes with key features and Hybrid performance capabilities.

2018 Honda Accord Hybrid

 

The 2018 Honda Accord Hybrid uses a powertrain consisting of a 2.0-liter 16-valve DOHC Atkinson cycle engine. This engine combines with a two-motor system with a continuously variable automatic transmission. The 2018 Honda Accord Hybrid Touring comes with paddle shifters, which will let the driver choose between four different levels of braking performance.

 

Each of the Honda Accord Hybrid models come with a suite of safety features. This includes blind spot information system, traffic sign recognition, collision mitigation braking, road departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control, and lane departure warning. Additionally, all Accord Hybrid models come with satellite and HD radio, Apple CarPlay and Android Audio to enhance the music experience.

 

2018 Honda Clarity

 

The 2018 Honda Clarity Plug-in uses battery power charge to power the Clarity until fully depleted and then will transition back to a convention hybrid mechanics. The Clarity also has three different modes to conserve battery life; normal, sport, and eco mode. The Clarity also features a 17-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery. This gives the Clarity an electric range of 47 miles. This battery takes about two and a half hours to recharge using a 240-volt charging station.

 

The Clarity Fuel Cell and Clarity Electric are both powered exclusively by an electric motor. The Clarity Fuel Cell can go up to 365 miles, while the Electric uses a 25.5-kilowatt-hour battery pack which provides 93 miles of range.

 

Each Clarity Trim comes with standard features. This includes dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry and start, an 8” touchscreen and an eight-speaker audio system. The Clarity features standard Bluetooth connectivity, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay.

 

2019 Honda Insight

 

The latest hybrid comes in the form of the 2019 Honda Insight, a compact hybrid sedan.

It is estimated to carry a fuel efficiency of 55 MPG city and 49 MPG highway. The Honda Insight has a combined horsepower of 151 with 197 lb-ft of torque. This hybrid system runs mainly on battery power and uses the engine to recharge the battery. When maximum speed is needed, such as on highways, the engine will power the wheels to give optimal performance.

 

Standard on all Insight trims are 16-inch alloy wheels, full LED lighting, a 7” digital display, heated side mirrors, and pushbutton start. It also comes with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Additionally, the 2019 Honda Insight EX and Touring models add the safety feature, Lane Watch System which aid in the driver’s awareness of what is happening on the passenger side of the car, including a camera in the right-side door to display the vehicle’s blind spot.
